50th anniversary - a special programme full of fun and experiences

This year we celebrate our 50th anniversary with a very special programme filled with experiences for the whole family.

The anniversary year kicks off on 5 April with a film screening in collaboration with OFFSpring. On 11 April, we invite you to the opening of our anniversary exhibition, where you can dive into 50 years of history, revisit the model railway from Copenhagen Central Station and try the MY 1112 simulator. On 17 April, we'll celebrate the anniversary itself with admission prices as in 1975, birthday cake, bus rides and fun activities for both children and adults.

The anniversary weekend on 14–15 June was a festive celebration filled with steam, diesel and great experiences. Guests experienced the iconic Sølvpilen train, the MZ 1401 and P 931 locomotives – and many trains on a nostalgic vintage train ride between Odense and Fredericia, pulled by MY 1135 from 1957.

The next major event is on 6 September, when you will have a unique opportunity to experience a large part of the museum's collection and hear about the work behind the scenes. The event requires a ticket, which includes bus transport to and from the museum.

Later in September, you can look forward to a new special exhibition, where we pay tribute to the orange tractor from Olsen Banden på sporet (The Olsen Gang).

Opening of our new depot in Marslev

Look forward to 6 September, when we celebrate the opening of our new depot in Marslev with an official inauguration and a unique display of selected train frames, carriages and locomotives from the museum's extensive collection. The area is not normally open to the public, so this day gives you a rare opportunity to experience our new hall and get a look behind the scenes.

Celebration day and anniversary exhibition - 50 years of the Danish Railway Museum

Experience the highlights of the museum's 50-year history in Odense through special artefacts, images and stories that evoke memories and show the development over the years. In the exhibition you can revisit the iconic model railway from Copenhagen Central Station and try your hand at our MY 1112 simulator. For children and the young at heart, there are plenty of fun toys and activities. The exhibition opens on Friday 11 April - come and be part of our history.

Honouring the Orange Tractor

In September, we're opening a small but special exhibition about the orange tractor from the iconic film Olsen Gang on the trail, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. We have found rare items from our warehouse, including an impressive 2 × 2 metre hand-painted film poster, which will be shown to the public for the very first time. Come and experience a piece of Danish film history when the exhibition opens on 27 September.

Anniversary weekend 14-15 June

On 14–15 June, we celebrated the museum's 50th anniversary with a festive weekend in Odense filled with unique experiences. Guests were able to view selected carriages and locomotives from the collection, including the iconic Sølvpilen train and the impressive MZ 1401 and P 931 locomotives, which are rarely shown to the public. The weekend offered a rich programme of activities and special moments for the whole family, and we would like to thank everyone who helped make the anniversary something special

A very special date - 17 April 1975

On Thursday 17 April, we celebrated exactly 50 years since the Danish Railway Museum opened its doors in Odense. All day long, guests flocked to the museum, and the atmosphere was high as we offered admission prices as in 1975 - DKK 5 for adults and DKK 2 for children. Visitors could enjoy birthday cake, take a ride on the anniversary buses, experience the new anniversary exhibition and participate in fun activities for both children and adults

See the Olsen Gang on the trail

On Saturday 5 April, audiences were treated to a very special film screening when, in collaboration with Odense's new feature film festival OFFSpring, we screened The Olsen Gang on the track - on the very track where the film's famous protagonist, the orange tractor, stops. Film journalist Christian Monggaard gave an exciting insight into the Olsen Gang and the iconic universe surrounding the films and talked about the background and meaning of the beloved film series. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day so special.
