Activities for the whole family

Enjoy an unforgettable summer experience with your family. The summer holidays at the Danish Railway Museum are filled with exciting activities where you can ride a mini train, vintage train and vintage bus - and get up close to the world of railways. Learn about the museum's large turntable, the iconic red express train and the MY 1112 locomotive - and get into the grave of a locomotive and experience it from a whole new angle. All activities are included in the entrance fee and the museum is open every day from 9:00 to 17:00.

Full steam ahead during the summer holidays

Enjoy a special experience at the Danish Railway Museum when we run vintage trains full steam ahead. Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday during the summer holidays, we whistle for departure and invite you on an atmospheric train ride on the museum's own line. We run every half hour from 10.30-15.30 and the journey lasts approximately 10 minutes. The train journey is included in the entrance fee.

On a tour with the vintage bus

Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday during the summer holidays, you can hop aboard a real veteran bus and take a pleasant ride through the city. The journey lasts approximately 30 minutes and is free of charge when the entrance fee to the museum is paid. The veteran bus runs between 11.00-16.00

Hear about the Red Express Train

The old Little Belt Bridge and the Red Express Train revolutionised railway operations in Denmark. Get the story and get inside the Red Lightning train, which is normally closed to the public. Every day at 11.40 & 15.10. The presentation is in Danish and English

Get a ride on the miniature train

Hop on board and take a ride on the popular mini train. You'll travel outdoors and pass the old Little Belt Bridge, a Great Belt ferry and a station town. The tour starts at Copenhagen Central Station. The train departs every day between 10-16.30 and takes about 5 minutes.

This summer we open the doors to a very special locomotive

Join us on a guided tour and experience the iconic diesel locomotive MY 1112 from the inside. You'll stand in the driver's cab, hear about the power of the engine and learn how MY locomotives changed Danish railway operations in the 1950s and beyond. Every day during the summer holidays at 11.10 and 14.40. The presentation is in Danish and English

See steam locomotive O 318 from below

During the summer holidays, you can experience steam locomotive O 318 from a whole new angle. We open the locomotive pit under track 7 in the old depot building - the former locomotive repair workshop. Here you'll have a rare opportunity to go underneath the impressive locomotive and see it from below.

Experience the turntable and the supply system

During the summer, we invite you inside the round shed from 1954. The depot has 21 tracks and is used to store and move railway equipment. Several times a week, vehicles are moved from one track to another using the large turntable. Go behind the scenes and learn about the depot, the turntable and the supply system. You can experience the turntable in operation every day at 10.40 and 14.10. The presentation is in Danish and English

Food and drink

The Food Stall in the museum café is open every day from 10:00 to 15:30 and serves light snacks and sandwiches. You are also welcome to bring your own food and beverages. There are indoor and outdoor areas where you can enjoy your own food and beverages.

Buy your ticket or annual pass in advance via our webshop. Children and young people (0-17 years) always have free admission. Please note that the ticket page is in Danish.

The Danish Railway Museum is centrally located in Odense and is easily accessible by public transport. There is paid parking close to the museum.
